Why You Should Care About Readability Statistics

editing_and_proofreading_blog_959This is a favourite hobby horse of mine. In most situations these days, you need to get your message over before people drift on to something else. Flowery language has its place, but mostly short clear sentences are more good to you.

This post explains why you should care about readability statistics.

I did read somewhere that some academics don’t think it is their job to write clearly. The reader needs to put some effort into the process so they get more benefit out of it.  I think those people are kidding themselves. If a piece is easy to read, it gets through to more people, and it takes them less time to read it. We are all short of time.
