Reading as a competitive sport

Editing_and_proofreading_blog_623I know we should be encouraging people to read as much as possible. It has all sorts of beneficial side effects, many of which happen without you noticing. Singing falls in the same category.

Like Bridget Whelan, I’m not convinced that reading should be a competitive sport. Competitive singing can be a very good thing. It gives focus, and an incentive to improve. Doesn’t competitive reading risk missing out on most of the benefits?
