Why do Australians tend to like UK spelling?

Editing_and_proofreading_blog_620I think the most interesting part of this post about the preference for UK spelling in Australia is in the comments section. There are some very sensible points in that section.

While I agree that spelling is complicated, I’m against the attempts to simplify, because, as I’ve written on this blog before, trying to match spelling to pronunciation assumes we all pronounce words the same way. Which we don’t.
